My granddad taught me to be courageous, respectful, and driven to be my best each day l if I wanted to achieve things in life. I took those values into my work here when I began two years ago. Within my first year here, I went from being a Part-time Garden Loader to an Assistant Store Manager. A year after that, I was honored as I received the Platinum Hammer Award recognizing my leadership and work ethic.

My family is a major motivation for me and being able to share these accomplishments with them is special. I live by the saying, “be the change you’re expecting”. When I relocated th Michigan there were not a lot of opportunities for kitchen an bath designers. So I went to Lowe’s and they hired me into a store that had dismal management but great employees. We acted as a family with dysfunctional parents. Upper management was changed when we got a new DM. He brought in a team that operated on the same principles that you described here. Our sales had a huge increase, people were getting recognition for their accomplishments, and overall we were a happy family. Unfortunately we had been a non productive store for so long that the last three years couldn’t pull us out of the hole. They announced that they were closing our store. There were a lot of tears, disbelief that Corporate couldn’t see that we were on our up. However, the night of the announcement the company had district manager, district HR, and our store managers present to explain that we would all be placed in other stores. I was very lucky in that there was a store that could take me immediately and I moved to find a great management team and wonderful staff.
